Suits e a definição de game-playing: a “atitude lusória”, ou o problema do subjetivismo

Resumo
Em The Grasshopper: Games, Life and Utopia (1978), Bernard Suits apresenta um objetivo claro, o de definir “play”, ou melhor, “game-playing”, preocupação que já o acompanhava pelo menos desde a década anterior à sua grande publicação. Até chegar à sua versão resumida – “jogar um jogo é a tentativa voluntária de ultrapassar obstáculos desnecessários” –, o autor vai descrever o que entende por “elementos lusórios” – “objetivos”, “meios” e “regras” –, considerando que a unidade do que é jogar um jogo, dos seus elementos, é assegurada por uma atitude, a “atitude lusória”. Não obstante o mérito do seu esforço teórico – visto na tentativa de definir uma componente social tão complexa e alvo das mais diversas interpretações e equívocos –, parece-nos que, com este elemento aglutinador, o autor mais do que uma solução convocou outro problema (o do subjetivismo) para o debate, sujeitando-se, inclusive, a comparações com outras conceções também elas problemáticas. É para aqui que vamos orientar o foco do presente artigo.
